Big Village 5th Birthday Party at Oxford Art Factory

Big news peeps, we’re turning 5!

To celebrate, Big Village and FBi Radio present the Big Village 5th Birthday Party at Oxford Art Factory on November 7th. Featuring live sets from True Vibenation, Loose Change, Mathas, Ellesquire, Suburban Dark, P.Smurf, Soul Benefits, Rapaport, Tenth Dan, Billie Rose, Roleo & 26th Letter, with host Jeswon.

It’s been a busy 5 years since we started as an artist collective in 2010 and we’re keen to celebrate the fact we’re still here, putting out the music that we love, from the artists that inspire us.

To mark the 5 years, we will also be releasing a limited edition compilation, entitled ‘5 Years Strong,’  featuring some of our favourite Big Village tunes on 12” vinyl and digital. The ‘5 Years Strong’ vinyl will be available online, at the 5th Birthday Party and through record stores nationwide.

The last 12 months has seen Big Village stretch out geographically with new signings Soul Benefits from Western Sydney, and Mathas from Perth. Our next release is Mathas’ long-awaited ‘Armwrestling Atlas’ out 30th Oct, and will be followed by full-length drops from Soul Benefits and Suburban Dark in early 2016.

Mathas signs to Big Village Records

We are absolutely stoked to announce that Perth MC / Producer Mathas has signed to Big Village Records. Mathas is one of our favourite artists in the country and the first ever interstate artist to sign to the roster.

Mathas has had a massive last few years winning the WAM song of the year in 2013 for Nourishment ft Abbe May and WAM Urban Artist of the year 2012, 2013 and 2014. Mathas was also a Triple J Next Crop artist in 2014 and Won Best Music Video at the 2015 WA Screen Awards for Stone Cold Sober. Damn son!

Mathas’ sophomore album “Armwrestling Atlas” will be released through Big Village Records and The Community Records in October 2015.

Welcome Soul Benefits to Big Village Records

Today we announced the signing of a new artist to Big Village, SOUL BENEFITS, who are set to release their debut full length album on the label in early 2015.

Soul Benefits are the next generation of Sydney Hip Hop, a 3 man crew from Western Sydney who formed back in 2010 consisting of rappers MC Storme, Young Supreme, MC / producer / DJ The 26th Letter. Although all around 20yrs old, the trio boast’s a refined sound inspired by a blend of golden era 90s boom bap, classic funk and soul, and current hip hop and electronica.

Soul Benefits are unique voice for Sydney’s Western suburbs, their proud expression of their New Zealand heritage and culture has resonated deeply with the diverse cultural communities of the area, along with a no bullshit depiction of the struggles of growing up in the suburbs.

We here at Big Village have been huge fans of these prolific young MCs for a while, on all levels of their music making, from their deft lyrical precision and effortless laidback delivery to their direct engagement with their audience, building of their own branding and clothing and most of all the welcoming and intoxicatingly joyful energy they bring when on stage.

We are absolutely thrilled to be inviting SB into the BV familia, and sharing our skills, resources and work ethic with such a promising and positive group of guys, and we look forward to making 2015 a memorable year with their first official release.

Soul Benefits have been added to the line ups for the Melbourne and Sydney Xmas Parties taking place on Saturday December 13th at Northcote Social Club, and Saturday December 20th at Newtown Social Club.
