The ‘Champion Sound Remixtape’ is a tribute to the Jaylib 2003 classic “Champion Sound” LP. P.Smurf delivers a collection of new songs using beats from the original release and collaborations with long term DJ Cost as well as MCs Maundz, Ellesquire, 1/6, Hyjak, SWARMY, Class A, Joe New and Nooky.

The digital mixtape is accompanied with an original comic book release of the same title, by illustrator Sam Clouston, which tells a story of disruption, addiction and corruption inside Smurf Village.

Soul Benefits Launch New Single ‘Rebel Music’ Ft. SMV


Soul Benefits are back with ”Rebel Music” the second single from their forthcoming album “SB No BS” due for release on Big Village Records mid 2016. ’Rebel Music’ is another raw, head nodder from the young trio and features NZ veteran MC, SMV a member of the groups Machete District, The Villains, 4 Corners and the Universal Zulu Nation.

Big news from P.Smurf, to pay tribute to the late, great J Dilla and the genius of LA producer Madlib, he has announced forthcoming release, “Champion Sound Remixtape”, using beats from the 2003 classic Jaylib LP. This mixtape will be available for free download on J Dilla’s Birthday February 7, along with a limited edition P.Smurf comic book.

The mixtape features guests Maundz, Ellesquire, 1/6, Hyjak, SWARMY, Class A, Joe New, Nooky & DJ Cost.

Big Village DJs X DCA Takeover Sunday Walls at The Lord Gladstone Sun Jan 10


BV are joining forces with the esteemed DCA graffiti crew to takeover The Lord Gladstone’s monthly ‘Sunday Walls’ starting this Sunday Jan 10.  Big Village DJs for the afternoon are Roleo, 26th Letter, DJ Cost and DJ Migz. Holding down the walls are the amazingly talented DCA representitives Days, Desta & Chez. They will be presenting an afternoon of live graffiti inside the courtyard and back lane of The Lord Gladstone.

Held on the second Sunday of each month at the recently renovated The Lord Gladstone Hotel, 115 Regent st, Chippendale,  just 5 minutes walk from Central Station, Sunday Walls is the perfect way to spend this sweltering Sydney summer. FREE ENTRY – 2pm-10pm.

Big news peeps, we’re turning 5!

To celebrate, Big Village and FBi Radio present the Big Village 5th Birthday Party at Oxford Art Factory on November 7th. Featuring live sets from True Vibenation, Loose Change, Mathas, Ellesquire, Suburban Dark, P.Smurf, Soul Benefits, Rapaport, Tenth Dan, Billie Rose, Roleo & 26th Letter, with host Jeswon.

It’s been a busy 5 years since we started as an artist collective in 2010 and we’re keen to celebrate the fact we’re still here, putting out the music that we love, from the artists that inspire us.

To mark the 5 years, we will also be releasing a limited edition compilation, entitled ‘5 Years Strong,’  featuring some of our favourite Big Village tunes on 12” vinyl and digital. The ‘5 Years Strong’ vinyl will be available online, at the 5th Birthday Party and through record stores nationwide.

The last 12 months has seen Big Village stretch out geographically with new signings Soul Benefits from Western Sydney, and Mathas from Perth. Our next release is Mathas’ long-awaited ‘Armwrestling Atlas’ out 30th Oct, and will be followed by full-length drops from Soul Benefits and Suburban Dark in early 2016.

Mathas signs to Big Village Records

We are absolutely stoked to announce that Perth MC / Producer Mathas has signed to Big Village Records. Mathas is one of our favourite artists in the country and the first ever interstate artist to sign to the roster.

Mathas has had a massive last few years winning the WAM song of the year in 2013 for Nourishment ft Abbe May and WAM Urban Artist of the year 2012, 2013 and 2014. Mathas was also a Triple J Next Crop artist in 2014 and Won Best Music Video at the 2015 WA Screen Awards for Stone Cold Sober. Damn son!

Mathas’ sophomore album “Armwrestling Atlas” will be released through Big Village Records and The Community Records in October 2015.
